  • Rural Information Center (RIC)
    To provide information and referral services to local government officials, businesses, community organizations, health professionals and organizations, libraries and rural citizens working to maintain the vitality of America’s rural areas.

  • Tourism Office
    Tourism Office: The Tourism Office works to expand and diversify Iowa’s tourism industry. Marketing efforts include regional and national advertising; publishing guides and informational brochures about Iowa’s tourism attractions and events; promoting the state at travel, sports and vacation shows; and working with the national and international group travel and travel agent industry. Manages four interstate Welcome Centers and serves as a liaison with 17 locally-owned Welcome Centers. Tourism information and assistance is available to travelers stopping at the Welcome Centers. Eastern, Central and Western Tourism regions provide educational, networking and technical assistance opportunities for tourism development and marketing. Grant dollars are available through the regions for publications, advertising, education and heritage tourism.   • Intergovernmental Review System
    The system is charged with the responsibility of designing a process to review and comment upon certain grant applications specified by various federal grantor agencies. In this capacity, the system serves as a single point of contact for federal agencies and grant applicants, as well as others, to determine the review requirements. The system is also the state clearinghouse for the review of grant applications originating at the state level or for actions proposed in relation to direct federal development projects. As such, the system redistributes items of local interest to area clearinghouses.

  • Entrepreneurial Training (ET)
    The Entrepreneurial Training (ET) Program provides 10 weeks of entrepreneurial training in a classroom setting. The program prepares participants to operate their own businesses by training them to prepare viable business plans and secure start-up financing. Services are available only to recipients of Iowa’s cash assistance program, called The Family Investment Program (FIP).

  • Iowa Department of Economic Development Community and Rural Development

  • Institute for Decision Making (IDM)
    The Institute for Decision Making (IDM) assists Iowa communities and not-for-profit community-based organizations in their efforts to implement economic and community development programs intended to support the creation/retention of jobs, economic growth, and quality-of-life enhancements.

  • Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
    The purpose is to increase market demand for products at authorized Iowa farmers markets. A local economic development program that benefits 1)the local community; 2)nutritionally at-risk Iowans; and 3)farmers.

  • Community Leadership Development
    Leadership development in communities and for community-based organizations.
