2008 FACT Act seminars offered in May
Recently the bank regulatory agencies published final regulations that implement Section 114 (Red Flag Guidelines) and Section 315 (Reconciling Address Discrepancies) of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACT Act). The new regulations require each financial institution to establish a written Identity Theft Prevention Program.
The 2008 FACT Act: Red Flags seminar will be offered May 7 in Cedar Rapids and May 8 in Des Moines. The seminar will address how to develop the required written program; how to conduct and document required risk assessment; the five categories of red flags; how to detect and mitigate identity theft and other topics.

Upcoming Webinars
Flood Insurance Review and Update Web Seminar
April 22 • 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Following the losses from storms in 2004 and 2005, the federal government and Congress are focusing much attention on flood insurance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is being revamped and refunded. The bank regulatory agencies are increasing already heightened efforts to ferret out violations. No other aspect of the compliance examination is consistently receiving such close scrutiny. Many institutions have paid penalties for the violations.
Most violations involve a basic misunderstanding of the rules of coverage and other requirements. Common violations involve incorrect completion of the Standard Flood Hazard Determination Form, failure to require flood insurance and the failure to deliver the Notice of Special Flood Hazards. This program provides the knowledge needed to avoid frequently cited violations and obtain a positive outcome in flood insurance examinations. The seminar looks at both portfolio issues and individual loan issues.
Robbery Preparedness for All Personnel
April 23 • 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
The number of robberies fluctuates, but the need for a standardized, comprehensive robbery training program remains constant. This seminar will train your entire staff about effective robbery response techniques and help satisfy requirements for Bank Protection Act training. State and federal regulatory agencies require every financial institution to provide initial and continuing robbery response training for all employees.
This presentation provides a logical, strategic model designed to help any employee understand the scope of the processes used to prevent and respond to several kinds of robberies. This training encourages staff to make informed decisions about responding to a robbery. Knowing what to do during and after a robbery occurs is equally important. The planning exercise helps reveal flaws in the institution’s response and training tactics.
