Workshop for directors, management offered in June

The Iowa Bankers Association’s 2008 Bank Directors Workshop is a one-day program designed to assist bank directors and executive management with carrying out their duties and responsibilities. The workshop explores the relationship between bank directors and management, regulators, customers, employees and shareholders.

The primary focus will be how to be a good director. Regulators are increasingly holding directors responsible for the safety and soundness and performance of the bank. The safety and soundness concept is rooted in the concept of risk management, which will be a featured topic.

Specific workshop topics include:
• Board compensation
• Required policies
• Risk management
• Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
• Key advisor relationships (legal, auditors, regulators)
• Regulations & compliance (Reg-O, BSA, FIRREA)
• Understanding the UBPR
• Camel Ratings
• Loan Review
• Strategic Planning

Participants can choose to attend one of two dates/locations: Tuesday, June 24 in Cedar Rapids or Wednesday, June 25 in West Des Moines. Click here to register for the workshop online. You can also register using the form provided in this week’s edition of Extras. The registration deadline is June 20. Contact the IBA’s Ann Winkel at 800.532.1423, ext. 4346 with questions.

Introduction to Commercial Lending School

The Introduction to Commercial Lending School will take place May 11-13 at the Cedar Rapids Marriott Hotel. The School is designed to provide bankers with a basic understanding of the principles and concepts of commercial lending.

The School is intended for bankers who are new to commercial lending, branch managers, retail lenders, credit analysts, support staff, cash management or international employees who want to learn more about commercial lending.

In addition to a pre-test and post-test, each student’s performance will be evaluated through assignments and case study group work. To successfully complete the program, participants will be expected to attend all classes and correctly answer 75 percent of the questions in the final exam.

The Introduction to Commercial Lending School is a great opportunity to prepare for the week-long Commercial Lending School which will take place in October.
