OCC Pays a Visit to First Newton National Bank
Recently, First Newton National Bank, in Newton received a rare visit from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Comptroller John C. Dugan presented the bank with a certificate of appreciation for its 75th anniversary. The Comptroller and his staff also participated in the regularly scheduled bank examination.
“We were extremely honored to have the Comptroller not only participate in our examination, but also present us with the certificate of appreciation,” said Gary Kahn, president of First Newton National Bank. “We were proud to receive recognition for our 75 years of service to our community.”
Dugan’s visit to Newton signified the first time the Comptroller had participated in a bank examination.

Habitat Home Dedicated, Keys Handed to New Owner
Dao Dihn finally achieved her dream of homeownership as IBA President and CEO John Sorensen handed her the keys to her new home at the dedication of the 2007 IBA Habitat for Humanity Home on May 31.
During the first part of April, more than 320 bankers built the home in front of the capitol. The project, “Another Capitol Idea” was the third Habitat for Humanity home build by bankers.
Financial backers of the home included Wells Fargo, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines as well as the Iowa Bankers Association.
The home now permanently resides at 1223 East 16th Street in Des Moines.
