IBA Steer Raises Money at Governor’s Charity Steer Show

The 25th Annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show was held at the 2006 Iowa State Fair on Saturday, August 11. Following the show, the IBA sponsored steer was auctioned off for $4,100 to Curran Cattle Company in Melrose.

“Cement Truck” was shown by WHO-AM radio’s Mark Pearson and Sarah Feiges of Sioux City, the steer’s former owner. The steer placed fourth in the competition.

“The Ronald McDonald House is a great organization, providing a home away from home for families dealing with a very difficult situation and we are proud to support such a worthy cause,” said Jeff Burgus, CEO of Mediapolis Savings Bank. “We’ve also been able to establish a great relationship with WHO and Mark Pearson who truly cares about the cause and the young people who raise these animals.”

Twenty-six steers were shown and auctioned off, raising a total of $116,625, to go to the Ronald McDonald Houses of Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City.  The Governor’s Charity Steer Show was developed by the Iowa Beef Industry Council, the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and Former Governor Terry Branstad. Since its inception in 1983, the show has raised nearly $1.4 million for charity.
