2007 Best of Iowa Call for Entries

It’s getting close to the end of the year, which means it’s time to start thinking about what marketing campaign from 2007 you are going to enter in the IBA’s annual Best of Iowa competition!

Best of Iowa is the state-wide advertising and marketing competition for member banks of the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA). The IBA sponsors the Best of Iowa competition to give deserved recognition to those bank marketers who are responsible for creating and executing successful marketing and advertising programs that enhance the image of their bank and contribute to profitability.

The Best of Iowa competition is divided into four overall categories:  Community Development/Public Relations, Multi-Media Campaigns, Print and Non-Print.  These four categories are further broken down by campaign budget size and whether or not the campaign was created by an advertising agency or bank personnel.  Campaign budget sizes include: under $1,000; $1,000 - $5,000; $5,001 - $15,000; and over $15,000.

All entries will be displayed and awards presented at the Best of Iowa awards breakfast during the IBA Annual Marketing Conference, May 7-9, 2008, at the Sheraton West Des Moines.

Entry forms will be mailed in early December.  The deadline for submitting your campaigns is Monday, March 3, 2008.  In addition to being mailed, the Best of Iowa entry form will also be available on the front page of the IBA website at www.iowabankers.com under “Featured Events” as an editable pdf form that you may fill out online, print and mail in with your entry.  The online form is now available.

If you have any questions regarding the competition, please contact the IBA’s Dia Gross at 800.532-1423, ext. 4384 or 515.286.4384.

IBA Awarded Community Bank Award from ACB

By offering a hand up to an immigrant family, Iowa bankers have earned national recognition for a major volunteer project. During its annual meeting in Las Vegas last month, the American Community Bankers (ACB) gave the IBA its community bank award—the national association’s highest honor—for the Another Capitol Idea home building project with Habitat for Humanity.

The ACB recognized the commitment of more than 360 Iowa bankers in volunteering to build a Habitat house on the State Capitol grounds in 2007. Bankers built a home for Dao Dihn and her four children in eight days this past April. Dihn is a refugee from Vietnam who settled in Iowa in 1985.

The Habitat building project has become an annual event for Iowa bankers. The IBA partnership with Habitat for Humanity started in 2005.

“Our staff volunteers for this project every year because it’s fun to work with other bankers on a worthwhile project in a non-bank related setting. More importantly, teams of bankers are happy to give back to our communities and to our state. We very visibly show our commitment to Iowa as we build a Habitat home,” said David Boswell, SVP of Bank Iowa, Humboldt. “We see this as an investment in people.”

Habitat for Humanity and Governor Culver’s Office have asked the IBA to return for a fourth home building project in April 2008. The project will again be on the grounds of the State Capitol.  Approximately 40 bankers a day will be needed to volunteer to work on the house. From hammering in the first nail to placing the final shingle, bankers are actively involved in the building every part of the house.  The specific dates of the 2008 IBA–Habitat build project will be announced in early 2008.

The Iowa Bankers Association and the New Jersey Bankers Association were the only state banking associations to earn kudos from the ACB in 2007.
