Teach Children to Save Day - April 29, 2008
This event occurs every April when bankers make presentations to students in grades K-12 about budgeting, saving, recognizing needs and wants and how interest makes money grow. Since the first National Teach Children to Save Day, nearly 46,750 bankers like you have made 60,189 presentations and reached nearly 2.3 million children and teens across the country, providing them with money skills they'll use throughout life. Do your part and help your community by visiting a classroom, church group or youth group and sharing savings lessons. Teach Children to Save kits are available for $95.00 each. Please contact the IBA’s Cheryl Miller at 1-800-532-1423 or cmiller@iowabankers.com or Click here for more information about this program.
Get Smart About Credit Day - October 16, 2008
Now is the time to start planning for your bank’s Get Smart About Credit program. Only seven states require students to complete a course with personal finance content prior to graduation. Bankers can step up to fill this gap. High school juniors and seniors are an ideal audience for money management lessons. The Get Smart About Credit Resource Kit can get you started and is available to IBA member banks for $95.00. Make plans for your bank staff to visit a college campus, high school classroom, freshman orientation session, youth group meeting or continuing education class in your community. Please contact the IBA’s Cheryl Miller at 1-800-532-1423 or cmiller@iowabankers.com to order your kit. Click here for more information about this program.

Money Smart Week (MSW) Iowa 2008 will be held April 5-12 in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City. Bankers in these areas are encouraged to hold financial literacy events for consumers the second week of April. These events may be as simple as a 30-minute talk in an elementary or high school or as extensive as a multiple evening program for adults. Banks planning on hosting events should contact the IBA’s Ben Hildebrandt at bhildebrandt@iowabankers.com or Cheryl Miller at cmiller@iowabankers.com so your events can be posted on the Money Smart calendar. The deadline to enter events for the printed calendar is January 31, 2008. The deadline to enter information for online directory events is March 31, 2008.
