Iowa Bankers Meet With Young, Scholten
Election season is in full swing, and Iowa bankers are connecting with candidates. This week, bankers started meeting with congressional candidates. Bankers met with David Young, republican candidate for congressional district 3, and J.D. Scholten, Democratic candidate for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Discussion began with an overview of bank involvement in the Paycheck Protection Program and updates on pandemic response. Bankers highlighted the importance of tailored regulation and tax equity in the marketplace.
eetings with the Congressional candidates will continue in the upcoming weeks and the IBA’s Financial Town Halls are scheduled to begin Aug. 31. The town halls provide an opportunity for bankers to educate legislators and candidates on the banking industry. There’s also ample time for legislators, candidates and bankers to connect, ask questions and have discussions. These meetings are important to our success as an industry and we hope you’ll be able to attend (in person, if COVID-19 allows). Registration will open in July and all banks, legislators and candidates running for office will receive an invitation.
The 2020 BUILD (Bankers Unite in Legislative Decisions) campaign is also underway. BUILD is the political action committee for Iowa’s banking industry. This year’s BUILD goal is $200,000 and thus far $148,000 has been raised. Dollars raised are used to support legislators and candidates that support the banking industry. For more information on BUILD, contact Jenica Lensmeyer.
