Neese Finds Joy in Banking

Alexia HeadshotAlexia Neese, loan processor at First Trust and Savings Bank in Wheatland, believes success goes beyond reaching certain milestones or goals, but instead is about finding joy and fulfillment in the work you do. Neese finds her success through the connections she builds with her customers and clients in banking. “My customers trust me to help them achieve their dreams, and I’m happy to be a part of it,” she said.

Neese’s piece of advice to new bankers is to believe in yourself and apply for the role you want that will allow you to give back to the community. If you enjoy talking with people and being a problem solver, banking could be a great fit for you. “Banking is a dynamic and rewarding career that offers diverse opportunities for growth as well as ability to build your financial expertise while making a real impact on the economy,” she added.

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I’m most proud of the connections I’ve made with customers and coworkers while working in banking. My customers trust me to help them achieve their dreams, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Remember that you’ve got this. Apply for the part-time teller position that will work well with your college schedule or support your community by applying to work on your local bank’s communications team. If you enjoy talking with people and being a problem solver, you will find a fun and engaging career in banking.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking is a dynamic and rewarding career that offers diverse opportunities for growth as well as ability to build your financial expertise while making a real impact on the economy. Banking provides a platform to develop critical skills in finance, analysis and strategy. It also offers a great work-life balance, which is a priority for most people.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

I am fortunate to be on the Consumer Credit School Advisory Board which has allowed me to connect with other banking professionals, including industry leaders, peers and regulatory experts. These relationships can lead to new business opportunities, partnerships and insights on what other banks are doing.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

I have a 10-month-old baby boy who keeps me on my toes. I enjoy watching my son grow and hit milestones, reading books and going to live music events. I’m planning to prioritize travel next year – it’s something I’ve been wanting to do more of!

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” I believe that success isn’t just about reaching certain milestones or goals but finding joy and fulfillment in the work that you do.
