McCready Strives for Excellence in Banking

Amy McCready 2021 (2)Amy McCready, senior vice president and chief operations officer at Pinnacle Bank has found success in banking by avoiding complacency. She is proud of working her way from part-time teller to overseeing all operations at the bank. For McCready, a career in banking provides variety and opportunities for growth.

McCready credits the IBA with providing opportunities for peer connection and ideas to take back to her own workplace. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family. A guiding principle McCready lives by is to “strive for excellence, not perfection.”

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

Everything, because I started as a part-time teller, moved up to loan administrator when a position opened up, then worked my way up to oversee all operations of the bank.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Do not give up and become complacent in your current position. Keep reaching for the top and learn it all along the way.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Everyday you learn something new. There are so many changes on a daily and weekly basis, so it keeps things interesting when trying to plan for the future and grow in your career.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

I have been able to meet and connect with so many peers over the years when going to seminars and peer groups with other IBA members. That has given invaluable insight and helped me make better decisions at our own institution.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

Travel with family.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

“Strive for excellence, not perfection!” – Damon Morrison, president and CEO of Pinnacle Bank

I’ve found myself saying this to other employees over time.
