Spaans Supports Lasting Impact
Kyle Spaans, ag/business banking officer for Peoples Bank, works to be a trusted resource to help people grow something that lasts. He is able to help customers through difficult times because of his experience dealing with the historic flooding in Rock Valley in 2024.
Spaans said involvement with the IBA equips him with knowledge to bring back to his bank. When he isn’t working, Spaans enjoys spending time with his family, collecting coins, and working as a volunteer firefighter.
What drove you to choose a career in banking?
I enjoy working with finances and wanted to build relationships with people to help them grow something that lasts, whether it’s a farm, business, or other financial goals. I want to be a trusted resource and help provide guidance and long-term impact.
Describe one life experience that taught you a lesson you apply to your banking career.
Rock Valley had record flooding in June of 2024, I had two rental homes that had roughly two feet of water on the main floor. This was one of the hardest and most unsure times in my life. With determination and help from the State of Iowa, I was able to rebuild these homes and construct a new apartment building. I use this experience to work with customers during difficult times.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Being able to help your neighbors achieve their dreams and work alongside them is very rewarding.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
Being involved with the Iowa Bankers Association helps me connect with other bankers and gain knowledge that I can bring back to Peoples Bank.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
Besides spending time with my wife and children, I am an avid coin collector and enjoy going to coin shows and shops. I am also a volunteer firefighter.
