Beck: The Impact of Community Banking
Jessica Beck, marketing director for DeWitt Bank & Trust Company, has seen the powerful impact a community bank makes on a small town. She said a career in banking grows personal financial expertise, alongside making a lasting impact where it matters most in the community.
Beck credits the IBA with helping her excel at her job through educational resources and opportunities to network with other bank marketing professionals. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, and lives by the quote by Joseph Chilton Pearce, “To live a creative life we must forget our fear of being wrong.”
What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?
To be involved within your community organizations.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Working at a small town bank has shown me how powerful it is when an organization encourages you to get involved, give back, and support local initiatives. We are not just serving customers but we’re helping neighbors, businesses, and community partners. A career in banking lets you build financial expertise while making a real, lasting impact where it matters most in our community.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
Being involved with IBA has helped me have the opportunity to network with others in bank marketing as well as further my education in bank marketing. There are resources available to help me excel at my job.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
When not working I enjoy spending time with my family (husband and two daughters). I especially enjoy the time spent with my family when we travel and camp.
