IBA Member Spotlight: Josh Klipping

Klipping Banks With Curiosity

Josh Klipping wears many different hats in his role as a relationship banking officer at Bankers Trust. He enjoys the opportunity to learn, ask questions and find creative solutions, and credits strong mentors and leadership throughout his career for helping shape his work approach. One piece of advice that has stuck with Klipping is to be the first to raise your hand, ask good questions and work hard, while recognizing that it’s OK to not know all the answers. After originally attending college with plans to become a pastor, he has spent the past several months studying Koine Greek with the goal of reading the New Testament in its original language. Outside of work, Klipping has taken up running, which has quickly become his favorite way to disconnect and recharge. Klipping Josh 015 3

What’s something ABOUT YOUR ROLE PEOPLE MIGHT NOT EXPECT?

I certainly didn’t understand the wide-range of knowledge you need to possess before I stepped into my current role. Someone in my role needs to be able to wear many different hats.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

I have been blessed to have a great mentors and leadership in my time at the bank. My first manager I had when I started at the bank told me to be the first to raise my hand, ask good questions and put my head down and work hard. She also instilled in me that it is ok to not know everything, be creative with the resources available to me to find the best solution.

If you could instantly become an expert in one thing, what would it be?

Koine Greek – the language that the New Testament was written in.

what’s an interesting or lesser-known fact about you?

This is related to the previous question, and I’m not sure how interesting it is but I went to college to be a pastor. I have spent the last 6 months trying to learn Koine Greek with the goal to be able to read the New Testament in it’s original language.

What do you do outside of work to recharge?

This year I have taken up running and it has become my favorite way to disconnect and recharge.
