Even Steps Out of Comfort Zone, Finds Success
Before becoming a banker 10 years ago, Kelli Even worked for 20 years at a mortgage servicing company, where she went from payment processor to loss mitigation manager. “[The move] has allowed me to expand the servicing knowledge across all aspects of the banking industry,” she said.
She said a willingness to step outside of her comfort zone has helped her advance her career to become vice president of loan operations at Farmers State Bank in Waterloo. “I continue to look beyond the current, set future goals within reason and not allow setbacks to become distraction,” she said.
What is your favorite thing about working in the banking industry and why?
The banking world is ever changing, there is always an opportunity to learn something new and better oneself. The products and services offered by the bank build personal connections within the communities helping others to become successful in meeting their personal or business needs.
Describe one life experience that taught you a lesson that you apply to your banking career.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone has opened unexpected opportunities allowing me to grow personally and professionally. I continue to look beyond the current, set future goals within reason and not allow setbacks to become distraction.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Banking is a rewarding career. It allows one to assist customers and build connections throughout the communities in which they serve. There is an array of positions across the bank that one can hold from sales, customer service, lender to marketing or back office.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
The IBA provides opportunities for continuing education in the banking industry which allows for individuals to expand their financial knowledge and create connections across the state. Constant communication from the IBA allows members to keep up-to-date on industry trends.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
I spend time supporting my husband’s garage business. We enjoy spending time with our daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter extended family and friends. My husband and I frequently travel to tropical destinations during the winter months. Our favorite place is Turks and Caicos. In the summer, we enjoy time outdoors riding bikes on the Cedar Valley trails, golfing, other sporting events or Jeep runs to small towns across the state.
