Helping Others Drives Casey in Banking Career

Kelsey Casey croppedHelping people has been extremely important to Kelsey Casey throughout her career. Prior to banking, she worked as a CNA in a nursing home. She found that, “It takes a special kind of person to work in a nursing home. It can test your patience, but it is extremely rewarding seeing how your presence makes that patient’s day.”

Now, Casey works as the regional customer service associate manager for Community Savings Bank in Manchester. “Banking is a rewarding career choice because you get to learn about your customers’ goals and dreams, and you get to help and watch them achieve those dreams. It is never boring, and every day is different because you are continually learning something new,” she said.

How did you get into banking as a career?

I got into banking when I was going to college and started as a part time CSA. I floated between several offices between my school hours and school breaks.

Prior to your current role, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had, and what lesson did it teach you that you still use today?

Prior to working at the bank, I worked at a nursing home. I was a CNA there, and I worked in the kitchen for a while in high school. While working at the nursing home, I learned how to prioritize tasks. There are tasks that must be completed daily and by a certain time. It takes a special kind of person to work in a nursing home. It can test your patience, but it is extremely rewarding seeing how your presence makes that patient’s day.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking is a rewarding career choice because you get to learn about your customers’ goals and dreams, and you get to help and watch them achieve those dreams. It is never boring, and every day is different because you are continually learning something new.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

Being a part of the Iowa Bankers Association allows me to stay up to date with the latest trends and changes in the banking industry. It allows me to see similar situations other bankers are facing and see how they relate to different scenarios at our bank.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time outside. I love spending time with my family and friends. I have four nieces who I love watching their sporting events and spending time with. I also enjoy spending time watching my brother play football and baseball at Coe College with my family or cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. I also enjoy going on side-by-side rides with my boyfriend and friends.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

“Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.”

“Do it with passion or don’t do it at all.”
