Ronnebaum: Rooted in Service and Community
Michaela Ronnebaum, assistant vice president operations officer for F&M Bank in Cedar Rapids, learned from an early age the importance of being patient and helpful. She said the bank’s commitment to the community aligns with her values and brings meaning to her career. She works to resolve issues efficiently while keeping her team and clients top of mind.
Ronnebaum said the IBA provides a strong network of members and trainings that keep her up to speed on industry trends. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family on their farm, riding four wheelers, and supporting family at livestock shows and sporting events. 
What drove you to choose a career in banking?
I was searching for a full-time job as I finished college, having decided not to pursue a career in education. I happened to run into a longtime friend who worked at F&M Bank and asked whether if they were hiring. A few days later, I started my first role there. Since then, I’ve worked my way through several positions, discovering what truly motivates and fills my cup me each day. Banking wasn’t a career I originally envisioned for myself, but now that I’m in the industry, I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Describe one life experience that taught you a lesson you apply to your banking career.
As the oldest of five siblings, I had to learn very quickly to be patient and be a helper. That experience has carried into my banking career, especially in Operations, where I’m involved in most implementations. I have a strong understanding of our core and the connections required to keep daily operations running smoothly. This often leads to a lot of teaching moments. I’m usually one of the first phone calls when something doesn’t go right. I’m known for resolving issues quickly and efficiently while keeping both our team and our clients top of mind.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
With my experience working across multiple departments throughout my career, I’m a clear example of how banking offers extensive opportunities for growth and continuous learning. F&M’s strong commitment to community involvement also aligns closely with my personal values, making my career even more meaningful.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
The Iowa Bankers Association is a great opportunity to network with peer banks. They offer trainings that keep you up to speed on the new developments in our environment and on emerging industry trends. It’s incredibly beneficial to be part of such a strong and supportive network of members.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
When I’m not at work, you will find me outside on our farm with my husband and our three kids, playing outside together, riding four wheelers, and finding all the mud. There is much laughter while instilling hard work on the farm! Family means everything to me, so when we’re not on the farm, we are traveling to a niece’s or nephew’s livestock show/sporting event.
