When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?
Bringing in a proactive tool for updating risk assessment and procedures in the bank. It really helps both department employees and outsiders quickly understand why this process is done this way, and what this process drives. It’s very helpful when you are looking for what regulation or rule affects which part, and if a change is needed or to see what other options are available.
What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?
Always look to add skills. I started in the BSA world and have grown in understanding different skill sets and resources. I’m currently working on how we can use AI and automated processes in banking and what the concerns for privacy and errors are. There is always something new to add to the toolbox.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Everyone wants a dependable place and a dependable face for financial support. Banking offers that stability.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
It gives me a group of peers and like-minded individuals to ask questions and bounce ideas off of. The IBA resources are some of the best in the country, so they make it easy to be a first line of reference.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
Travel or work on projects at home.
What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
