Andry: Banking With Purpose and Balance
Steve Andry, chief credit officer at First Central State Bank, brings decades of banking experience to his team. His experience as an ag lender helped him more deeply understand different types of customers and businesses. He believes banking is a great career because of the impact on the customer and the local economy.
Andry said involvement with the IBA provides opportunities to network and stay updated on the latest trends and banking regulations. When he isn’t working, Andry enjoys spending time outdoors and being active. He strives to strike a balance in all areas of his life in order to be a positive influence at work and for his family.
How did you get into banking as a career?
I started off at ITT Financial Services company out of college in 1984. I worked at Davenport Bank and Trust starting in 1986 up until the time of the Norwest Acquisition. I have been in banking ever since.
prior to your current role, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had, and what lesson did it teach you that you still use today?
Commercial and ag lender. It has allowed me to get to know many different types of people and businesses. This experience has given me a wide lens on many situations.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Banking is a community service that allows for growth and prosperity for both the customer and the local economy.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
Iowa Bankers is a good organization that provides support to the industry statewide. It allows banking professionals the opportunity to network as well as find out the latest innovations, trends and regulations that are relevant to their customers and financial institution.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
I like to be active outside and do a variety of sporting activities, hockey, biking, boating and gardening.
What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?
I try to be balanced in my daily life between family, work, and self. Balancing those components is important to be a positive influence for each. It can be a struggle from time to time.
