Iowa Bankers Association Presents Four Student Athlete Achievement Awards at Iowa High School Boys Basketball State Tournament

Winners receive $1,000 scholarship to college of their choice

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 13, 2023) — Four Iowa high school seniors received a 2023 Iowa Bankers Association Student Athlete Achievement Award during the Iowa High School Boys Basketball State Tournament on Friday in Des Moines. One student from each class was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the IBA to the college of his choice.

Scholarship recipients included:

  • Class 1A: Caleb Egesdal, Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School, Reinbeck
  • Class 2A: Andrew Austin, Central Lyon High School, Rock Rapids
  • Class 3A: Brody Bauer, Newton High School, Newton
  • Class 4A: Colby Dolphin, Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids

Scholarship recipients are selected each year based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement.

“These remarkable high school seniors reached new heights on the court, and we’re excited to help them accomplish their goals in the next phase of life,” said Tara Deering-Hansen, the IBA’s vice president of marketing and communications. “Iowa banks remain strong because of the relationships they build with residents in their towns. In helping this younger generation of customers, the hope is that these scholarship recipients will use their skills right here in our Iowa communities after graduation.”

For three decades, the IBA has sponsored the Student Athlete Achievement Award program, which has grown to honor student athletes in football, boys and girls wrestling and boys and girls basketball. The IBA has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships since the program began.
