IBA Member Spotlight: Wes Kamerman

Banking Gives Kamerman Chance to Help Others

Wes Kamerman 2When Wes Kamerman looks back on his banking career, he’s most proud of the opportunities he’s had to help customers. Whether it’s helping them find or build a home, buy a car, or manage their finances, he relishes the chance to help them with their finances. “I enjoy being able to help people with whatever life stage they are in,” he said.

Today, Kamerman is a business banker at Peoples Bank in Sioux Center. He says he’s working his way into commercial and small business lending as he transitions away from his role as a mortgage loan originator.

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I don’t know if I have specific achievements that come to mind, but when I look back on my time in banking, I am proud to help people. I enjoy helping them find or build their dream home, walk someone through their first loan for a car, or sit down with someone who is struggling with finances/budgeting. I enjoy being able to help people with whatever life stage they are in.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to not know an answer. The answers will come, and the more comfortable you are in your position, the better you are going to be able to service your customers.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking is a fulfilling career. When you work for a community bank, you see how they give back to the community and enrich the lives of people in the communities they serve.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

Being involved with the IBA has helped me build a network of connections that I otherwise wouldn’t have. These connections are great to have when I have questions about how other institutions handle specific situations.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My wife and I have three daughters that are involved in many activities that keep us busy. I like to be outside as much as possible and enjoy working out and staying active.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

“You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
