JOHNSTON, IOWA (Feb. 19, 2024) — Each year, the Iowa Bankers Association presents the Student Athlete Achievement Award to student-athletes who excel not only in athletics, but also scholastically and in their communities. Wyatt Vlasek, a senior at Prairie High School, was honored as this year’s recipient of the IBA’s Student Athlete Achievement Award in boys wrestling. The scholarship was presented Saturday during the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
Vlasek is a dual sport athlete who has served as captain of the wrestling team during his senior year, while also giving back to his community with over 180 hours of community service.
“Through hard work in the classroom, on the wrestling mat and self-service in other areas, Wyatt has established himself as a leader,” said Derick Ball, Prairie High School counselor and head wrestling coach. “Wyatt is goal-driven and is focused on maximizing his potential. I am excited to see what his future holds.”
Nicole Lee, chief human resources officer of Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust Company in Cedar Rapids presented Vlasek with the $1,000 scholarship to the college of his choice.
“The Iowa Bankers Association is proud to recognize these remarkable high school seniors that are leaders on their teams, in the classroom and in their community,” said Jenica Lensmeyer, the IBA’s vice president of marketing and industry relations. “As long-time supporters of financial literacy, Iowa bankers are committed to helping Iowans reach their financial goals. We know that these scholarship recipients have a bright future, and we hope that they will continue to contribute to Iowa communities following graduation.”
For three decades, the IBA has sponsored the Student Athlete Achievement Award program, which has grown to honor student-athletes in football, basketball and wrestling. The IBA has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships since the program began.
