IBA Member Spotlight: Holly Manske

Manske Helps Employees Grow and Succeed

Manske HollyWorking in human resources, one thing Holly Manske is most proud of is being able to see employees grow and succeed. While that can be achieved in any industry, she says doing so at a bank has allowed her to make a difference in people’s lives as well as her community. “Having an employer that encourages you to join committees is amazing. You get to see the direct impact of both your employer and personal contributions,” she said.

The University of Iowa graduate, who works as an assistant vice president, HR generalist at CUSB Bank in Cresco, said in banking it’s important to be willing to learn and adapt. “We never stop learning and some of the things we will be doing in 10 years, we don’t even know exist today,” she said. “I find that exciting (and maybe a little scary).”

When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I’m going to cheat and do a couple. Earning the trust of my co-workers, getting to be involved in the hiring process and seeing new employees grow and succeed, and helping our bank implement a Work-Smarter-Not-Harder efficiency program.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Always be willing to learn and adapt. We never stop learning and some of the things we will be doing in 10 years, we don’t even know exist today! I find that exciting (and maybe a little scary).

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

In a small community, working at a bank is one of the best ways to get involved and make a real difference in people’s lives as well as your community at large. Having an employer that encourages you to join committees is amazing. You get to see the direct impact of both your employer and personal contributions.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

The IBA HR Peer Groups has been a lifesaver in many situations. Having people to reach out to with questions or ask for advice has been invaluable. IBA has incredible learning opportunities as well, I have learned so much from Conferences and Seminars provide by Iowa Bankers Association.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

Boy mom life! Lots of sporting events and waterpark vacations. I love to travel, read and be active with my family when not at work.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
