When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

My proudest achievement in banking is working with a branch that experienced minimal growth for several years. We successfully expanded the branch and advanced our individual careers. During my time with this team, a teller who had little interest in progressing beyond her role embraced her passion for management and earned multiple promotions, eventually becoming branch manager. I am so proud to see the growth of the team both professionally and personally. After I moved to a new location, the team has continued to thrive.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

Try out different paths and absorb knowledge from every department. Banking isn’t limited to consumer or commercial realms; there are many different paths to explore, and you never know what may end up inspiring you most.

No matter what position you have in banking, you have the opportunity to help others reach their financial goals. From opening their first checking account to launching a small business, bankers get to witness their clients’ growth while building relationships and making a personal impact through supportive assistance. Collaboration with other departments creates a seamless process for clients transitioning into new life stages, and it encourages bankers to explore different aspects of the banking industry.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

Networking and sharing ideas have played a huge role in my engagement with IBA. I love that I can connect with individuals possessing diverse perspectives and skill sets, allowing us all to help each other grow. Additionally, this involvement keeps me up-to-date on banking trends and best practices.
