How did you get into banking as a career?
In college, I took a job as a part time teller and ended up loving the industry. After graduation, I decided to continue with banking due to the fulfillment I felt helping others reach their financial goals.
Prior to your current role, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had, and what lesson did it teach you that you still use today?
Before beginning my career in banking, I had the opportunity to be a makeup artist with Estee Lauder. Being a makeup artist taught me that the customer can feel when you lack confidence in your abilities. This experience led me to strive to instill confidence in my customers in both my skills and their own.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
Banking allows you to see your impact on a daily basis. From a child setting up their first account to helping businesses thrive, the community counts on us to offer support and be their financial advisers.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
The IBA has helped me gain knowledge of the banking industry. When I began in banking, I had specialized skills in my specific department. The IBA opened doors to learning about advocacy, leadership and being well-rounded as a financial adviser.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
When I’m not at work, I like to spend my time with my husband and dogs. We have two dachshund mixes (Beau and Bean) and a border collie (Biscuit) who all love to hike and play fetch.
What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?
Take care of our customers and those who should be.
