What drove you to choose a career in banking?

I enjoyed bookkeeping courses in high school. My husband and I farm. I keep the books for the farming operation. I applied for a position with Leighton State Bank at the time the Pella office was opened. I have worked in the Pella office for 25 years.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Our mission statement includes the words, helpfulness and flexibility. The bank is very involved in the community. The employees volunteer in their communities. My position allows me to help customers with products that best suit their financial situation. I value the relationships I have built with many customers who I work with on a regular basis.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

The IBA provides services, new products as well as updates on the banking industry, which have helped LSB develop products. I have been helped by the seminars I have attended that the IBA has sponsored.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

I enjoy spending time with family and attending events the grandkids are involved in. I also enjoy gardening and reading.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

I was a 4-H leader for 25-plus years. The 4-H motto is To Make the Best Better. I strive to live by that motto.
