Willman Works to Add Value to Bank’s Programs
Throughout his career, Scott Willman has worked to invest in the success of his community by seeking out opportunities and learning from all the resources available to him, including those that the Iowa Bankers Association offers. “It’s important to know where to find your resources and to know who to reach out to,” he said. “Nobody has all the answers, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of the people and information available to you.”
Willman, a graduate of Western Michigan’s Thomas Cooley Law School, is currently the vice president of compliance, BSA, and security officer at Iowa State Bank & Trust. While in his role, Willman has been able to implement improvements to their fraud response program which boosts the security for the customers and mitigates losses for the bank.
When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?
I’m most proud of the enhancements I’ve been able to implement for our fraud response program. It’s rewarding to see a tangible benefit for our customers that also mitigates losses for the bank.
What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?
It’s important to know where to find your resources and to know who to reach out to. Nobody has all the answers, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of the people and information available to you.
What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?
It’s a chance to be involved and invested in the success of the community you live in.
How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?
IBA offers resources and committee opportunities that have widened my range and increased my value to the bank.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?
My favorite activity is taking my young daughter to the playground.
What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?
A ship is safe in harbor but that’s not what ships are for.
