When looking back on your banking career, what achievement are you most proud of and why?

I’m most proud of the journey I’ve taken in my banking career. I started as a part-time teller, and through hard work and dedication, I’ve steadily advanced in my career. Transitioning from a background in retail and operations to HR was a significant challenge, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’m proud of the growth I’ve achieved so far and the continuous development I experience in this new role every day.

What piece of advice would you give to your past self or to anyone considering a career in banking?

My advice would be to lean in and seize every opportunity for growth. Don’t shy away from speaking up and sharing your unique perspective—your voice can bring valuable insights. Additionally, don’t hesitate to take on responsibilities beyond your formal job description. Stepping outside your comfort zone and volunteering for new challenges not only broadens your skill set but also highlights your initiative and versatility. And if there’s someone you admire or respect, don’t hesitate to seek their guidance or mentorship—they can provide invaluable support and help accelerate your career development.

What is your best elevator pitch for why banking is a great career?

Banking is a great career because it offers endless opportunities for growth and development, no matter where you start. I began my career as a part-time teller, and over time, I transitioned into HR—proving that with hard work, dedication, and the right resources, you can build a fulfilling career. Banking also provides a sense of community—whether you’re helping customers with their financial goals or contributing to local economic growth. It’s a dynamic field where you can continuously learn, make a meaningful impact, and advance, all while being part of a close-knit and supportive network.

How does getting involved with the Iowa Bankers Association help you and your bank?

My path to my current position has been somewhat unconventional, so I’m particularly grateful for the support and resources the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) has provided. Through peer groups and training opportunities, I’ve gained invaluable insights that have helped me grow professionally and better serve my bank. The IBA has been instrumental in connecting me with industry experts and fostering ongoing development, which has had a positive impact on both my personal growth and our bank’s success.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do most?

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. As a mother to a 10-year-old son, Theodore, much of my time is focused on activities that we can enjoy together. Living in a small town, I also appreciate the local events and community activities that bring people together. Whether it’s exploring the outdoors, attending town events, or simply spending time at home, I love being part of a close-knit community and cherishing these moments with my family.

What is a quote or guiding principle you live by?

A guiding principle I live by is, ‘Don’t ask someone to do something you’re not willing to do yourself.’ I believe in leading by example. It’s important to show others the same respect and commitment that you expect from them.
